The Metis Art Basics program aims to:
Stimulate creativity and imagination in the student
Develop a love for the arts and have fun!
If you wish to pursue art education seriously in the future, the fundamentals are a great place to start. These fundamental topics are like the foundation of a building: you need the foundation before you can get more detailed. But with so much to learn it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. We're here to help you!
Curriculum
The curriculum's complexity will differ based on the tutee's grade, how well they do on the diagnostic exam at the start of the tutoring season, as well as what art supplies are available to them.
For the most part, the curriculum is divided into two sections:
Intro to Sketching
The Elements of Art
Landscapes
Observational Study (Inanimate Object)
Texture Study
Animals
The required materials for these lessons include:
Pencil (just HB is fine, but recommended to get other graphite pencils)
Hi-Polymer eraser and/or kneaded eraser
Sketchpad (any size is fine but prefer 14” x 17” or greater)
Intro to Coloring
How do Colors Work?
Color Pencils
Firm Pastels
Oil Pastels
Watercolors
The required materials for these lessons include:
Pencil (just HB is fine)
Hi-Polymer eraser and/or kneaded eraser
Sketchpad (any size is fine but prefer 14” x 17” or greater)
